Totem Arte Plugin Update
About a week ago Arte.tv changed their video service, which broke the Arte Totem plugin. Arte.tv no longer provides WMV streams, only a Flash player and the video feeds are crippled. Exciting improvements. *grr*
But we found a workaround to access the old WMV streaming server. We’re back in business! Just update to the plugin version 0.8.4, from source, from Nicolas’ ppa or from Debian.
I don’t know how long this streaming server will be running. In the long run we will probably need a RTMP gstreamer plugin to play the Flash video content in Totem. HTML5 to the rescue!
In the long run Arte should fix their shit. They are publicly funded so they should use open standards and not some proprietary crap like Flash.
I love your Plugin and everybody who does so too: please write an e-mail to Arte and ask them to use something more open.

I did that last week, when the plugin was broken and there were no sign of any workaround.
I argued in favor of keeping wmv streams (I though it was too much to ask for open standards at this point).
Still no answer from them…

It seems that Bug 566604 (Add RTMP client support) has been fixed since then..?

@antistress: it depends on gst-plugins-bad 0.10.20 which is not out yet.
However totem-plugin-arte now uses it (no choice since Arte breaks *again* its API a few weeks ago).
Since it requires a pre-release of gst-plugins-bad, the package is currently available in Debian experimental and in my ppa.
Otherwise you can use the code from by branch: http://gitorious.org/~malaria/totem-plugin-arte/malaria-sandbox/commits/we_are_back
(I’m waiting for a merge but Simon seems to be on holiday)
